" THE CONSTITUTION FOR THE FEDERATION OF EARTH "
IS A DOCUMENT PROPOSING WORLD GOVERNMENT.
IT HAS BEEN DRAWN UP AT A SERIES OF CONFERENCES HELD IN VARIOUS
COUNTRIES OVER THE LAST 28 YEARS. ITS PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE SIGNED THEIR
NAMES IN SUPPORT INCLUDE ABOUT THREE HUNDRED PROMINENT PEOPLE SOME OF WHOM
ARE INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITIES
It is part of the power drift towards more highly centralised control and government surveillance over private lives. Large parts of it, however, symbolise the human idealism which has always sought panaceas for the ills of the world, such as war, tyranny and privation. It is very human and forgivable to find simplistic, artificial and pat formulae for the complex perennial human dilemmas and very often the 'simplistic' cure spawns a whole new pattern of disease.
The propose d new world constitution would have this effect because of the inherent corruptibility of human beings when given access to power. Even intellectual giants are moral pygmies when tempted by a degree of power which transcends their capacity and experience.
The constitution has very carefully thought out checks and balances to prevent possible abuses under a world system but it can not be inherently better than the people who implement it and these are the same type of people, basically politicians and civil servants, who control the many oppressive and fallible nation states of the world day. Many of these countries are already in possession of splendid constitutions written out by splendid idealists, but they have barely lived up to their vaunted promise; they are bent to serve the interest of their leaders who are also bent.
To live up to o its promise of of a new millennium the signatories of this document would have to include in the deal a new breed of legislator with a quantum leap in moral consciousness; it would be a parliament made up of facsimile King Solomon's, a liberal supply of Plato's philosopher kings and a fair few figures at least the level of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother theresa, Solzhenitsyn, Marcus Aurelius and Buddha.
As far as I know none of these paragons have signed their names.
I am also painfully reminded of the superb Stain constitution of 1936 which the world version does resemble though it is far more refined in its checks and balances! We amateur historians know what the Stalin constitution was worth.
As Fortians we value the dignity and liberty of the sovereign individual and we know that no bill of rights can grant freedom to a people whose minds and souls rare in darkness. They must know that they are free in their hearts and this derives from growing up in a home, a school a community which honours and loves liberty and individuality. Such people cannot be given anything by the state. The state in its very existence derives from the free consent of the sovereign individual.
We as Fortians, who claim to understand honour and nobility must also honour the genuine idealism and and undying hope which has gone into the drafting of this constitution; it is a vision, and "where there is no vision the people perish" like the lemmings and gadarine swine.
We may favour political unity for the advanced Western industrial democracies, but world unity at this time would only reduce all of us to third world status and third world subsistence.
SO LET US EXPOSE THESE NAKED EMPERORS.
David Duffy.
