My Nation

An Australia restored to true values for me, will be a sovereign Australian Nation under the British Crown. I am British of Australian Nationality. Other Nationalities under the British Crown include the English, Scots, Welsh, Northern Irish, New Zealanders and Canadians. As an Australian, I am a citizen of a Nation with it's own history and culture since 1788 together with an Aboriginal Culture and peoples from cultures around the world contributing to that mix. The sovereign Nation of Australia, as part of the British Community of Nations has its' own Constitution and Governing Institutions with a direct relationship to The Crown through an Australian Governor-General ( who could be called 'President' for all it matters ), Australian Prime Minister, Parliament and Judiciary owing nothing to Westminster or Whitehall.
The British Community of Nations have a population of 114 million, a Gross National Product of more than three Billion plus and an international trading network extending into Europe, the Middle East and North Africa through the United Kingdom. the Americas, North Asia and Eastern Russia through Canada and, Southern Asia and Tropical Africa through Australia. Within that trading network the Scandinavian Nations could be approached through Edinburgh, the Pacific Islands through Auckland and the Eastern Middle East through Perth in Western Australia. Having that arrangement in place would not prevent Australia selling directly to Japan or Latin America, or Canada selling to India, only that the primary relationship with those parts of the World with the British Community of Nations would be nurtured by the relevant Community Member. The Community Member Nations would also provide each other with a huge domestic market.
It has been said that Great Britain can either be a great Maritime Power embracing the four corners of the World or only a province of Europe. By choosing the latter Great Britain has been induced to turn it's back on a priceless asset, the English Speaking Nations with similar cultures, laws and governing institutions spread strategically around the World. Can anyone really believe that European Consumers will only buy British products if Great Britain is a member of the European Union? How many are aware that Great Britain, though still outside the Euro currency bloc is second only to the United States as the favoured place for foreign investment in the world? Around 25% of all investment into the 15 Nation European Union goes to Britain.
 

Education

An Australia governed with true values would, I submit have an educational system that teaches vocational skills together with the quality of life skills that enables students to read and discover in concert with their families and as a result EDUCATE THEMSELVES. The State should be providing the means for people to be employable and to acquire the skills to educate themselves according to their own and their family's values, not the State's.
There should be a clear distinction between a University and a Polytech. We learn a trade at a Polytech, be it Medicine, Law, Engineering, Marketing, Accounting, etc. A University teaches us to thinkand be in touch with the cultural and intellectual heritage of the civilisation. It is where Academics think, research and discover without commercial or political constraints. Universities, together with Libraries, Art Galleries and National Performing Arts Companies are the repositories of the civilization's cultural heritage. The current practice of Faculties having to justify their existence in terms of political and economic relevance to the Australian Universities Commission is an ABOMINATION.
 

Commerce

Australia, governed by true values would have a commercial culture constrained by ethics agreed by consensus among all participants in the commercial process, INCLUDING CONSUMERS, and not only by so-called market forces. Commercial efficiency should never be the only consideration to justify outcomes. The current arrangement where International Finance's agenda is the only agenda, should be overturned. This destructive agenda results in an International Money Market trading bookkeeping entries, 24 hours a day , 7 days a week of which, on average only 20% relates to an exchange of a good or service in the real world, a real world that has to constrain it's operations to, meet the income and profit taking needs of the International Money Market Operators. These Operators claim a significant slice of the fruits of the real world's labours without having made a real contribution. This results in the ' Advanced ' Countries going into crises whenever unemployment falls below 4-5% -- the financial wheels begin to fall off -- the incomes and profits of the Operators come from the income and participation denied to the 4-5% Unemployed, from Farmers denied the true value of their value of their produce and from Small Business denied the capital value and true profits from their trading. When unemployment fails to 4-5% the financial system cannot both employ those people and pay incomes and profits, TRIBUTE IN EFFECT to the small number of Financial Money Market Operators trading bookkeeping entries and therefore outside the real world economic production cycle. Even worse, at such a point the Money Market Operators require the Central Banks to raise interest rates to ' calm the economy down ' which increases their tribute even more, increases unemployment and increases home loan and business loan repayments, all with the intention of safeguarding the money market tribute system by keeping the international bookkeeping variables such as nominal inflation in balance with the other international bookkeeping variables across the major international currencies traded.

Commercial ethics should prevent Shopping Malls being constructed, for example, as a matter of public policy. The Malls reduce the number of high street shopkeepers with the opportunity of owning their own shopkeeping property, thus becoming part of an economically sovereign middle class. The Malls will soon eliminate that class from our society altogether and reduce all shopkeepers to virtual economic serfdom. A storekeeper in a Shopping Mall can never own the property they trade from and have little security of tenure. Whatever asset they have in their goodwill, in their trading reputation and development of a loyal clientele over the years depends on them being able to sell their business to a person able to continue that lease. The Shopping Mall management can cancel that lease almost at will, deprive the shopkeeper of access to the Mall for not behaving, thus reducing them overnight to owning nothing of value regardless of how many years they have traded successfully. The shopkeeper pays rent, a share of turnover and all the Mall's promotion and advertising costs. The harder they work the richer the Shopping Mall Owners become. In return the Shopping Mall Owners allow the hardworking shopkeeper the 'privilege' of surviving for the moment which historically has always been the pay off for a slave.
 

The Media

The Media cannot be regarded like any other business to be traded as a commodity to the highest bidder. It is the source of our information, and so the community has the right to protect itself against a concentration of media power which allows that information to be amended to suit the purposes of the Media Proprietors and their backers. Such public policy measures should require that no single Media Proprietor have more than 33% of the media service market in any Metropolitan Area and no more than 25% of of a National Market.
Journalists should not be able to approach anyone without that person's prior written consent to an interview, all proposals for interview being only in writing. The day of the non stop harassing phone calls beginning in the early hours and continuing until late at night with the person threatened with all kinds of innuendo unless they agree to an interview should become a thing of the past. Confronting people with a microphone and a TV camera just when they are trying to get to work, attend important appointments, etc., and endeavouring to bamboozle them into making damaging admissions regardless of the facts or the public interest should constitute Assault. The Media should not be able to report any allegations against anyone unless that person has been indicted by the Judicial Process -- trial by Media should be an indictable offence. Also the Media should be obliged to report only what they can prove to be true and to be in the public interest to report -- the day of the rumour, the speculation and the unconfirmed report should be over.
 

The Law

Anyone believing that they are protected by law in today's Australia should think again. The Computer Software Developer currently suing the National Bank will incur legal costs of at least 15 million dollars. Recently a Melbourne couple won an action against the National Bank for fraud and harassment -- a National Bank executive forged their signature on a document to make it appear as though the couple had guaranteed a loan that had gone bad. This was intended to get the executive and the Bank off the hook with their bad lending decision. The couple's case was proven in Court, including that they had been subjected to threats and a campaign of harassment to get them to accept the situation and turn all their assets over to the Bank -- the Court awarded ONE DOLLAR in damages to the couple and ordered them to pay all the Banks legal costs which amounted to $800,000. No action will be taken against the Bank Executives for proven incidents of fraud and harassment. The Bank is above and beyond the law. The couple's house and all their assets have been seized to pay the Bank's legal costs. The Media Companies are more powerful than any Australian Bank
